Reservoir Conserved Last Year’s Snow
A giant snow depot below the Harusák hill managed to meet the expectations of World Cup organizers. “The snow is in a good condition. According to our assumptions and experience from abroad, roughly one third out of approximately 40 thousand cubic metres melted away,” stated Karel Klapač, a member of the organizing committee, who is in charge of works related to uncovering of the reservoir.
With the aid of snow cat and a digger, a 70-centimetre-deep layer of wood chips that isolated the last year’s snow was removed. The wood chips will serve as a covering layer next year again. The giant hole in the size of a football field was filled up with snow last year at the beginning of March.
“We plan to begin transporting snow from the reservoir as soon as on this Saturday. We are taking advantage of the current chilly weather and continue with snowing up of the stadium, while preparing yet another reservoir for the case of emergency at the parking lot by the road. We will for sure have enough snow for the Biathlon World Cup,” Klapač assures spectators.
