The BMW IBU World Cup BIATHLON set to take place in NMNM!
The BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon is still going according to plan (only Oslo, Norway World Cup finals have been rescheduled to Östersund), including the current World Championships in Pokljuka. The Organizing Committee of the World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě confirms that the WC competitions will take place in the Vysočina Arena as planned on March 1 to 14.
“We have received the exception of the Chief Hygienist of the Czech Republic and the organization of competitions has been also confirmed by the IBU Health Committee,” says the secretary-general of the Organizing Committee Jan Skřička.
The event will take place under strict hygiene measures in accordance with the IBU COVID-19 hygiene concept. The health and safety of all athletes and other participants are of the highest priority in the planning, organization and further preparations of the World Cup.
The IBU’s strict hygiene concept has proven to be very successful throughout the season so far and has enabled the IBU to deliver fair and safe biathlon events. This concept, which includes frequent testing (over 10.000 tests have been conducted during this season so far), is the basis of regional health authorities approving biathlon events in their respective countries.
“We already have the experience with organizing competitions in front of empty grandstands,” says Jiří Hamza, head of the Organizing Committee, in response to 2020 measures. “But now we have another, this time health and safety challenge. I believe that we will manage everything smoothly in cooperation with our experienced World Cup medical team and that the entire two-week event in Nové Město will be a success after all.”
