On Saturday special celebrations took place in front of the crowded Vyso\u010dina Arena in NMNM. The Czech Women Relay team from OWG Sochi 2014 received their bronze medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine years ago, the Czech relay finished fourth behind Ukraine, Russia and Norway. The Russian team however was later disqualified for doping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All four relay members – Gabriela Soukalov\u00e1<\/strong>, Veronika V\u00edtkov\u00e1<\/strong>, Eva Puskar\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 and Jitka Landov\u00e1<\/strong> – have wrapped up their careers during the waiting years. \u201cI am really glad that the girls received their medals in Nove Mesto na Morave in front of their home crowd. It is a great satisfaction for being in the front line of the fight against Russian doping within the IBU,” said Ji\u0159\u00ed Hamza<\/strong>, President of Czech Biathlon and Vice President of the International Biathlon Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story of the women relay ended up in the best way possible – with a standing ovation in front of a fully packed Vyso\u010dina Arena. All of the members have agreed that the atmosphere was outstanding. \u201cIt was huge, similar to when we competed,\u201d<\/em> said Veronika V\u00edtkov\u00e1. \u201cIt was intense, I felt the energy from the crowd\u201d<\/em>, added Eva Puskar\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1.  Jitka Landov\u00e1 completed: \u201eExceptional atmosphere.\u201c<\/strong> \u201cI don’t have anything else to add, I confirm everything they said,\u201d<\/em> concluded Gabriela Soukalov\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They all met together again after eight long years. \u201cNormally it is hard to meet, so we are glad that it turned out well,\u201d<\/em> said Gabi. \u201cWe sometimes see each other, but not the whole group,\u201d <\/em>they all agree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winning an Olympic medal is always a special moment in any athlete’s life, even when it takes nine years to finally get it. \u201cWhen we finished the relay, I remember Gabi saying – I have a feeling that this might not be the end result,\u201d <\/em>Jitka Landov\u00e1 remembers what Gabriela predicted at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do the newly-decorated-medalists plan to do with the medals? \u201cI will sell it and donate the proceeds to a charity project. I have two favorites, but we will see\u201e <\/em>suggests Soukalov\u00e1. The remaining trio agrees to add the bronze medal to their collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is safe to say that these were some amazing careers that inspired younger generations to start with biathlon and make it one of the greatest winter sports of recent years in the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
